What I Found on Mount Moiwa Will Amaze You
Pre-Moiwa Exploring
Mt. Moiwa and Morenuma Park were on the same day, but I decided to give them 2 different posts because of how great of an experience they both were. Allow me to gush over how amazing these two locations were. It was finally time to leave for Mt. Moiwa so we packed our things and got ready to head out. We made our way down the elevator and out the doors to find a taxi. We ended up exploring the city a little bit and came across this place called Ganso Sapporo Ramen Street. It’s a beautiful narrow alley with tradition ramen shops lining the sides. It may be a minor location, but it was really cool. After this, we headed over to a busier part of the city and grabbed ourselves a taxi to head over to Mt. Moiwa.
Mt. Moiwa Ropeway
We finally arrive to Mt. Moiwa after a 25 minute taxi ride and walk inside. There’s a slight waiting time, like 10 minutes, and then we get directed over to the first lift which can fit roughly 20 people inside. As we make our way up the first lift, you can really see the whole of Sapporo and it’s so beautiful. It is a bit tight in the lift, so if you are someone who is claustrophobic, this may be a bit much for you so try and find a non busy day or let the staff know. we get off the first lift and head up another lift to take us to the very top. This 2nd lift really has a nice view, unobscured by trees. We get off the 2nd lift and make our way through a building with a restaurant and souvenir shop, but now I reach a staircase that leads to the upper deck. I walk up the stairs and little did I know, I would be about to experience something magical when I opened the doors to the platform of the summit. I open the doors and immediately look to my right and see beautiful mountains with god rays dancing from the clouds. I take this in for a moment, but what I didn’t expect was what would happen when I turned my gaze to the left.
A Beautiful Sight
A BIG FAT RAINBOW RIGHT THERE! It caught me off guard, but clear as day, all that on and off rain throughout the day was foreshadowing a major reward at the end of the day. This rainbow overlooked the city for great photos, and ended up casting a slight double rainbow. I was excited to go to Mt. Moiwa to get good views, but It felt like we were being blessed on top of that. I took so many pictures and ended up just walking around the deck just looking at the views from every angle. After an hour or 2, I finally felt like it was time to head down, so we made our way back down. We head down the ropeway and since it had finally reached night time, we could overlook the city in its true shiny glory. diamond sparkled lights performed before our eyes and people whipped out their phones to take pics. I ended up helping an elderly couple who didn’t know how to turn their flash off haha. We reach the bottom and catch a bus to the city that Mt. Moiwa provides. We make it back to the airbnb and get settled in. I have to say it would be hard to top that beautiful day, but let’s just say that the next day would top it.
I would like to take this time to say that Sapporo is a city that more people need to visit. Not only is it clean, but just an overall chill vibe. All seasons provide a lot and I think it’s sad that people only go to Tokyo when Japan has so much more to offer. That was my thought when we decided to do a month long trip. I wanted to explore more of the island because Japan isnt Tokyo, Japan is all the different styles and personalities across the 4 island and even though we didn’t visit every town, I believe we did better than most travelers in exploring what there is to offer.
